Up to 1995, the club played on the school playing field overlooking Pavilion Road. Its close proximity
to a residential estate, however, caused concern to residents, as cricket balls all too frequently
bombarded their gardens on Saturday afternoons during the summer.
Following consultation with the Head teacher and Governors of the school, permission was granted to
move onto another playing field at the south end of the College. With superb panoramic views over-
looking the town and headland, it offered much potential for a cricket arena, but was without changing
and other essential amenities required to meet Cornwall Cricket League ground standards criteria.
Resulting from the unique partnership forged with the school, a joint grant aid application was
submitted to the Foundation for Sport and the Arts in the early 1990s. An award of £75,000 was
forthcoming and a brand new pavilion built and opened in 1998 by Mr Keith Pont - ECB National
Development Manager.

This two-storey building comprises of, on the ground floor; two changing rooms with showers and
toilets; umpires room; kitchen; large dining/social activity area, which 'doubles' as a teaching room; separate public and 'disability' toilets. On the first floor; a conference room with members’
bar leads onto an outside balcony providing an advantageous location to watch the cricket and/or
admire the sea views.

A two bay cricket net, adjacent to the pavilion, provides a practice facility for both senior and
youth members, whilst a new electronic scoreboard – the first in Cornwall – was fitted to the
front of the pavilion prior to the start of the 2002 season. To the side of the Community College, a superb new 1.7million pounds Leisure Centre complex
was completed and opened in 1999. Offering outstanding indoor facilities, including a four-bay
cricket net, it provides opportunities for players to work on their game during winter pre-season
practice sessions. The sports hall can also be used for indoor cricket and has been an annual
venue for ‘Active Sport Cornwall' Youth cricket coaching programmes from January to April.
